Dark Spots & Hyperpigmentation
Pigment spots, also known as hyperpigmentation, include age spots and acne marks (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, PIH). These skin changes occur due to an overproduction of melanin, the pigment that gives our skin its color. A major factor contributing to the formation of pigment spots is sun exposure. This makes daily use of sunscreen very important.
To effectively treat pigment spots, certain active ingredients are particularly helpful:
- Vitamin A (Retinol, Retinal): These ingredients accelerate skin renewal and promote cell turnover, causing pigment spots to fade and resulting in a more even skin tone.
- Niacinamide: This vitamin B3 derivative reduces melanin production and has anti-inflammatory properties, leading to skin brightening and preventing the formation of new spots.
- AHAs: They exfoliate the skin surface, remove dead skin cells, and promote the growth of new, evenly pigmented cells.
- Tranexamic Acid: Works by inhibiting melanin production and reducing inflammation, leading to significant skin brightening.
- Vitamin C: A powerful antioxidant that brightens the skin and protects against free radical damage. It reduces melanin production and supports collagen formation, leading to more radiant skin.
